What is Kambo?

Kambo is a traditional Amazonian medicine that has been used by tribes located in the Amazon basin of South America. For centuries, these tribes have worked with kambo to stay healthy, cleanse negative energy, and ward off disease and infection. Kambo is referred to by the indigenous peoples as “the vaccine of the forest” for its ability to heal a wide range of illnesses covering all aspects of the human condition. The medicine comes from the secretions of the frog, and is rapidly gaining recognition as one of the most potent natural anti-inflammatory, antibiotic, antimicrobial, and anesthetic medicines found in the world today. It is a highly effective way to strengthen the immune system, detoxify the body, and bring healing to old wounds and unresolved issues.

Kambo brings up that which has been suppressed. Cleansing you from everything that’s not you, and bringing you back to your original strength and clarity. By removing these blockages, kambo allows us to begin in earnest a healing process that is long overdue, both individually and collectively.

Origins of Kambo

The most popular story comes from the Kaxinawá tribe of Brazil.
A great sickness had overtaken the tribe, and the shaman Kampu had tried everything. Desperate for answers, he journeyed to the spirit world with the plant medicine Ayahuasca. It was here that he was greeted by a forest spirit and presented with the frog. The spirit instructed Kampu on how to use the frog to cure his people of their illnesses.

When he arrived back to the village he began his treatments with the new medicine. One by one the people began to heal. The healing powers of the frog started to spread, and for thousands of years has been used as medicine by the Kaxinawá, Amahuaca, Katukina, Kulina, Yawanawá, Matses, Marubo and Mayoruna tribes. It is still used widely amongst indigenous people in the Amazon to this day although the rituals vary from tribe to tribe.

Why work with Kambo?

In the jungle, tribes use Kambo as a tool to prepare for hunting. It can open up your senses, make you super focused and give you lots of stamina. They also use it to lift what they call “panema” which translates to bad luck, depression, anxiety and heavy or dense energy. It’s also used it to heal themselves from sickness including Malaria, colds and muscle aches and pains. For the last 30-50 years scientists have been looking deeply into the secretion from this predator-free amphibian and have found over a dozen peptides ( short chain amino acids) which are bioavailable to humans, meaning we have receptor sites in our body to receive the medicine.

There are no published studies done on humans in a scientific setting however lots of research has been done on the peptides that make up Kambo medicine. These peptides have the ability to help with the following:

  • Muscle and joint and pains
  • Inflammation
  • Depression
  • Intestinal cleanse
  • Digestive aid
  • Heightened awareness and endurance
  • Increase Stamina
  • Stimulating Adrenal cortex and pituitary gland
  • Bacterial, microbial and fungal infection

Kambo may also help with the following

Parkinsons, Alzheimer’s, Cancer, HIV, Lymes disease, parasites, low blood circulation, arthritis, constipation, IBS, Organ stimulation, Endocrine stimulation, Addiction breaking. Kambo is also a great way to jumpstart a cleanse or clear any blockages from allowing to obtain your goals and dreams. It has a way of working on an energetic level to lift heavy energy and fear which can translate into you going after exactly what you want without hesitation. Your intention for each session will help guide the outcome of your treatment and can give direction to this powerful medicine.

As a disclaimer we cannot guarantee that kambo will cure or fix specific ailments that you may be experiencing however it has a the ability to help with many. Working with Kambo only once is like scratching the surface of an issue and it’s recommended to have three sessions within a lunar cycle (one month) to get the full benefits of this medicine for each session it will travel deeper within the body. It is also good to work with Kambo throughout the year to help keep your immune system active and prevent sickness in the body.

The Process

Receiving Kambo can be unusual and an uncomfortable healing process for many. It is considered to be an “active” healing process which carries levels of temporary discomfort/difficulty, but with potentially more rewarding outcomes in comparison to most “passive” pharmaceutical treatments. While the medicine is working its way through your body, it is quite common to feel a temporary worsening of symptoms, however Kambo has no negative, lasting side effects. You may also feel Kambo’s innate intelligence as it goes directly to the areas of your body and mind that need attention.

It is important to remember that each experience is unique to the individual, and it is best not to have any expectations. It is normal to have a lot of questions or even feel anxious before your treatment.

Preparation for Kambo starts with drinking 1.5- 2L of water before application of the medicine. As Kambo draws toxins out of the stomach and liver, water acts as the vessel and facilitates the process of cleansing through purging. While this experience can often be uncomfortable, it can also be a period of complete bliss and relaxation.

Purging can take many forms: vomiting, shaking, crying, laughing, sweating, yawning, diarrhea, or none of the above.

Application of the medicine

Prior to application, we will have a discussion about the amount of dots to be applied. This will be determined by your experience and health. The initial session always involves a strict safety protocol to test your reaction to a tiny amount of kambo.

A thin vine is heated up and the burn points are placed on the arm or leg exposing the lymphatic fluid which will carry the Kambo through the body. Traditionally men receive on their arm or chest and women receive on their leg. At this time, the Kambo is applied to the points while water is added to help with absorption. Effects can be felt immediately and it is normal to feel a flushing sensation, an increase of heart rate, and tingling in the extremities.

After the initial flush, one will start to feel nauseous, which is the point where purging usually begins. The Kambo points will remain on the body for around 20 minutes before being washed off.

Science of Kambo

As of now, there has been little research done on Kambo as a holistic treatment. However, there has been some research into isolated peptides from the secretions starting in the 1980’s, by scientist Vittorio Erspamer of the University of Rome. He was nominated twice for the Nobel Prize and is considered to be the first scientist to analyse Kambo in the laboratory concluding that Kambo contains a “fantastic chemical cocktail with potential medical applications unmatched by any other amphibian.” Kambo has the ability to cross the blood-brain barrier, which means it can penetrate deep into the cells and where it can draw out toxins and free radicals.

Thus far, researchers have discovered 9 different peptides (a short chain of amino acids), some of which are bio-active- triggering inherent physiological programs in the human body which activate different self-healing mechanisms.

The 9 peptides are:

Long lasting reduction in blood pressure.

Vasodilator, produces gastric secretions, affects salivary glands, tear ducts, and bowels.

Reduces blood pressure, potent analgesic, modifies satiety, sedation, and thermoregulation.
Potent antimicrobial activity against bacteria, yeast, fungi, protozoa, and opportunistic infections such as AIDS
Potent antimicrobial activity against bacteria, yeast, fungi, protozoa, and opportunistic infections such as AIDS
Potent opiate-like activity which have potent analgesic effects 30-40% more potent than Morphine. May affect pituitary hormone release and pulmonary ventilation.
Has a higher affinity and selectivity for delta opioid binding sites than any known natural compound.
Neuropeptides that are active in the central and peripheral nervous systems.
A 33 amino acid peptide that interacts with the adenosine receptor, a fundamental component in all human cell fuel and has shown to be very effective in killing cancer cells.

As a testament to their medicinal properties, there are over now over 70 Kambo related patents lodged. As with venoms from snakes and scorpions, researchers believe that Kambo will open up a new world of treatments for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Chronic Pain, Cancer, HIV, Parkinson’s Disease, Alzheimer’s, Depression, Vascular problems, Hepatitis, Diabetes, Rheumatism, Arthritis, Addictions and much, much more.

Please keep in mind that these are not medical claims.
The field of science is rapidly changing, and I encourage you to do your own research.
